PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk apparatus which surely discriminates the kind of an optical disk and prevents erroneous setting of servo parameters. SOLUTION: The optical disk apparatus discriminates the kind of the optical disk by measuring the amplitude varying frequency of the track zero cross waveforms of track error signals observed when moving an optical pickup in a radial direction of a disk at a constant velocity in a state in which focus servo control is conducted by a focus control means and comparing the value of the measured amplitude varying frequency with a discrimination reference value given beforehand.
