PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium, a recording and reproducing device, a remote control device, and a personal digital assistant, capable of referring to information about contents recorded in the recording medium without inserting the recording medium into the recording and reproducing device. SOLUTION: The recording medium 10 is provided with a non-contact readable IC tag 11 in a part other than a recording layer, and stores medium information including a medium identifier particularly assigned to the recording medium. The recording and reproducing device 100 is provided with an IC tag reading part 101 for acquiring at least the medium identifier from the medium information stored in the IC tag 11 of the recording medium 10, a retrieval part 102 for retrieving content information corresponding to the medium identifier acquired by the IC tag reading part 101 from a content list storage part 103 in which the content information relating to the contents recorded in the recording layer of the recording medium is stored with the medium identifier correlated, and a display control part 110 for displaying a retrieval result by the retrieval part 102 on a display device 20.
