PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a leader tape with less increase of drop out in accordance with a drive reel by storage for a long term or running at high temperature and transfer of a leader block part, and to provide a magnetic tape cartridge using the same. SOLUTION: (1) The leader tape is characterized that center line average roughness Ra at least on one surface of the leader tape is 10 to 60nm and a friction coefficient with Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>/Tic member is within a range of 0.1 to 0.3 in the leader tape constituted by providing a coating layer containing fine particles and a bonding agent at least on one surface on a support. (2) The leader tape of (1) is used as the leader tape which is joined to the tip of the magnetic tape, leads the magnetic tape and is pulled out to a magnetic recording and reproducing device in the magnetic tape cartridge constituted of rotatably storing a single or a plurality of reels formed by rolling the magnetic tape to a cartridge case.
