PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make temporary balance approach actual balance by grasping difference of number of receiving money and that of paying money relating to the method of controlling a bill handler which has a bill storage and can receive a wad of bills. SOLUTION: The method of controlling the bill handler, when paying a sheet of money from the bill storage, circulates the money (S72) if it is not a denomination for discharge, and adds +1 to a circulation counter (S73). The method transfers the value of the circulation counter to the sheet counter of the balance memory (S75) when the value of the circulation counter is higher than that of the balance memory by comparing the sheet counter of the circulation counter with that of the balance memory (S74), and does not post when the value is not higher, thereby correcting the sheet counter of the balance memory to the actual counter value when the value of the sheet counter of the balance memory is less than the actual value counted in the process of circulating.
