PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rice-cultivating material capable of further reducing the amount of cadmium absorption to the rice, and a method for cultivating the rice. SOLUTION: This rice-cultivating material consists of at least 1 kind of cyanamide-containing material selected from calcium cyanamide and substances containing calcium cyanamide as a component, vaterite, aragonite and at least 1 kind of calcium carbonate-containing material selected from substances containing at least one of the vaterite and aragonite as the component. The method for cultivating the rice is provided by using the cyanamide-containing material by 60-280 kg as the calcium cyanamide and calcium carbonate-containing material by 200-2,000 kg as the total of the vaterite and aragonite components, per 1 ha.
