An energy balanced weld controller (401) includes a mid frequency direct current power supply (400) and a weld switch (410) that turns the current to weld caps (425) on or off. The weld caps (425) are used to produce a weld on workpieces (420). The tip voltage (V) and the weld current (I) are multiplied to generate a voltage which is converted to a frequency. The output represents the amount of energy (E) provided to the weld and is provided to a frequency counter that counts the amount of energy delivered to the weld. A magnitude comparator (455) compares the energy (E) delivered to the weld to a target energy. When the energy (E) delivered to the weld equals the target energy, the magnitude comparator (455) sends a high signal to the weld switch (410) to terminate the weld. |
