The wrapping device for wound reels of band or strip-form material with a wrapping strip connected to the ends has a charging element (12) installed at a distance from the circumference of the finished, rotatably mounted reel for the electrical charging of the reel. Rollers (5,6) are provided for the feed of the wrapping strip (7) along the region of the charged reel exerting an extraction force onto the wrapping strip. A cutter (9) is provided for the separating of the wrapping strip overlapping the reel, and a welding device (11) for the connecting of the overlapping ends of the wrapping strip lying on the reel.
