<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve recording characteristics at the time of low recording power in the case of recording multilevel data in a recording medium and to perform stable recording even if there is individual difference of a recording medium, device and change of use environment. <P>SOLUTION: In the case of recording the multilevel data in an optical disk by irradiation of a laser light beam, a recording waveform for recording one piece of multilevel data is a pattern including a first top pulse (pulse width T<SB>on</SB>), a first off pulse (pulse width T<SB>off</SB>) and an erase pulse and if a value of the multilevel data falls in a predetermined range, a second top pulse (pulse width T<SB>on</SB>')at a predetermined recording power level is added between the first top pulse and the erase pulse. In this case, the multilevel data is data of m value and when the value of the multilevel data to be recorded is considered as n, the predetermined range to add the second top pulse maybe considered as n≥m/2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
