<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high refractive index material which together has all of high refractive index, excellent hard coat property, and light resistance. <P>SOLUTION: This high refractive index material comprises a compound having biphenyl skeletons and polymerizable unsaturated double bond groups in the molecule, wherein the number of the biphenyl skeletons is larger than 1, and the molecular weight per the polymerizable unsaturated double bond group is ≤300. The high refractive index material preferably contains a compound represented by the formula (R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>3</SP>are each H, or the like; R<SP>4</SP>to R<SP>6</SP>are each a divalent organic residue; R<SP>8</SP>is a tetravalent organic residue; R<SP>7</SP>is a monovalent organic residue, provided that at least one of R<SP>8</SP>and R<SP>7</SP>contains a biphenyl skeleton). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
