PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein it is difficult to discriminate a white object and that it is similarly difficult to discriminate a background having similar "luminance" and "tone" from the object, because a simulative white background occurs by the saturation of a photoelectric conversion element especially, when a strong light, such as water surface reflection, especially in a boat race enters in an electronic determining device used in a municipally operated race. SOLUTION: A color type electronic determining device extracts and selects one or two colors among R, G and B to display the selected colors on a CRT, etc., and thereby compares the image in the selected colors with a color image in a three-color mixed color to make the background to be easily discriminated from the object. The electronic determining device, configured in this way, by photographing an object other than a white object, facilitates discriminating image from simulative white caused by strong light so that the photoelectric conversion element saturates.
