PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a precise road gradient without delay to an actual change of road gradient. SOLUTION: A G-sensor 1 is disposed on the axle of a vehicle, and a road gradient is calculated based on a vehicle acceleration and an output value of the G-sensor 1. When the change quantity of road gradient calculated by a road gradient detection means is a value such that it is practically impossible, the road gradient calculated value before change is continuously outputted until the calculated value of road gradient is returned to the value before change. Therefore, even in a vehicle traveling state such that disturbance from a road surface or the like deteriorates the output value accuracy of the G-sensor 1, an abnormal road gradient value generated by the disturbance can be removed without delay to the actual change of road gradient to detect the precise road gradient.
