<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an inorganic/organic mixed oligomer usable as a raw material for the production of an inorganic/organic nano-mixed polymer usable in an optical element or a plasma display, and to provide a method for producing the oligomer. <P>SOLUTION: The inorganic/organic mixed oligomer is produced by (a) reacting the compound 1; R<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>Si(OH)<SB>2</SB>with the compound 2; R<SP>3</SP><SB>a</SB>R<SP>4</SP><SB>b</SB>M(OR<SP>5</SP>)<SB>(c-a-b)</SB>, or (b) reacting the compound 1 with the compound 3: R<SP>6</SP>OH or R<SP>6</SP>COOH, or (c) reacting the compound 2 and the compound 3 with the compound 1.
