PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely reduce power consumption without impairing stable lighting. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp driving device includes: a circuit formed by serially connecting first and third switching elements Q<SB>1</SB>and Q<SB>3</SB>, and a circuit formed by serially connecting second and fourth switching elements Q<SB>2</SB>and Q<SB>4</SB>, both of the circuits being connected in parallel with a D.C. power source 10; and a pulse transformer 12 for which at least one fluorescent lamp 2 with at least one of discharge electrodes formed on the peripheral surface of an arc tube is connected to its secondary wiring and its primary wiring is connected between the connection point between the first and third switching elements Q<SB>1</SB>and Q<SB>3</SB>and the connection point between the second and fourth switching elements Q<SB>2</SB>and Q<SB>4</SB>. A driving signal circuit 11 alternately controls conduction of the first and fourth switching elements Q<SB>1</SB>and Q<SB>4</SB>and that of the second and third switching elements Q<SB>2</SB>and Q<SB>3</SB>.
