摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely avoid that fuel stability is impaired while an engine is normally running by the learning and correction of the sensor output reference position of lift characteristics. SOLUTION: This reference position learning device of a variable valve mechanism comprises a lift/operating angle variable mechanism continuously varying the lift characteristics of an intake valve according to the rotating position of a control shaft and a control shaft sensor detecting the angle position of the control shaft in correspondence with the lift characteristics. The device receives learning instruction signals from the outside (step 1), the internal combustion engine is operated in a specified learning operation mode (steps 4 to 7), the variable valve mechanism is operated so that the lift characteristics are minimized in the learning operation mode (step 8), and the sensor output reference position is corrected or learned based on an output from the control shaft sensor (step 10).
