PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric connector which attains narrowing irrespective of a degree of contamination, an overvoltage category and a rated voltage required, generates no short circuit or the like, does not increase the number of components, enables easy processing, and does not lead to an increase in cost. SOLUTION: In the electric connector 10 wherein a plug connector 12 and a receptacle connector 14 are included, the plug connector 12 and the receptacle connector 14 fits in a detachable manner, and each of connectors 12, 14 includes the required number of contacts 60, 110, at least one or more insulators in which the contacts 60, 110 are arranged and fixed, and shells 40, 100 which cover insulators, the connector is constituted so that a recessed groove 22 to lengthen a creeping distance may be provided around an insertion hole 26 into which the contact 110 of the receptacle connector 14 is interposed at a fitting surface side of the plug connector 12.
