PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reliability of a magnetic disk device by preventing a reduction in floating amount of a magnetic head slider at a highlands. SOLUTION: This magnetic head slider is constructed in a such a manner that in a negative pressure slider constituted of air inlet and outlet ends and a floating surface, the floating surface is provided with a plurality of inlet side rail surface, an outlet side rail surface located within the same surface as that of the inlet side rail surface and having a magnetic head installed therein, a step bearing surface having a predetermined depthδ1 from the rail surface, a negative pressure groove surface having a larger depthδ2 than that of the step bearing surface, and a stepped surface located on the inlet side rail surface and having a predetermined height (h) and the continuity of a slider longitudinal direction, and the step bearing surface and the inlet side rail surface are disposed between the air inlet end and the stepped surface.
