PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal biosensor capable of capturing a protein such as virus with a simple method and further visually detecting it. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal biosensor comprises a receptor component specifically bonded to a material to be detected and a cholesteric liquid crystal having a cholesteryl group. A color tone change is caused in the cholesteric liquid crystal by the bonding of the material to be detected to the receptor component, whereby detection and/or quantitative determination of proteins can be visually performed by the color tone change.
