PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an element capable of reducing belt noise generated when a transmission belt taking an element of a belt transmission device as a component member is wound around a pulley. SOLUTION: In an element 1 forming a transmission belt by winding an annular strip therearound to be annularly bundled while being formed in a plate shape and annularly arranged facing to each other, when the transmission belt is wound around a pulley 3, thin parts 24, 25 thinner than the midsection 23 in a direction for connecting a left and right contact parts 4, 5 are formed in at least one of the left and right contact parts 4, 5 which keep the element 1 pinched between grooves of the pulley 3 to bring it into contact.
