PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the control of part items and easily assemble the part items in a valve gear mechanism in which a switching mechanism is installed to selectively switch between the open/close states of valves. SOLUTION: Sub rocker arms 11 driven by a cam are fitted to rocker arms 7 to 9 operating two intake valves and one exhaust valve, and brought into joined /separated states to and from each other by synchronizer pins 13a and 13b. Also, a sub rocker arm 12 brought into joined/separated states to and from each other through one intake valve and the synchronizer pin 13c is installed. By the combination of one oil passage 17 with return springs 14, the synchronizer pins are moved correspondingly to all cylinders/ idling cylinders/ delayed closing/one valve idle mode. Since a variety of valve open/close states can be realized without changing the spring constants of the return springs, the part control for return springs can be easily performed and the erroneous assembling thereof can also be prevented.
