The heating element contains substantially Mo(Si<SUB>1-x </SUB>Al<SUB>x</SUB>)<SUB>2 </SUB>and Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3 </SUB>and is prepared by mixing a molybdenum aluminum silicide-type material Mo(Si<SUB>1-y</SUB>Al<SUB>y</SUB>)<SUB>2 </SUB>with SiO<SUB>2</SUB>, wherein the SiO<SUB>2 </SUB>has a purity of at least 98%.
