<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact exhaust emission control device having high emission control performance for PM while suppressing the rise of exhaust gas pressure loss. <P>SOLUTION: A semi-filter structure 1 having a filter route for flowing exhaust gas therein through a filter and a filter bypass route bypassing the filter route is disposed on the upstream side, and a filter catalyst 2 of wall flow structure is disposed on the downstream side. Since a part of the PM in the exhaust gas is collected by the semi-filter structure 1, the stacked amount of the PM in the filter catalyst 2 is reduced to suppress the lowering of the catalytic activity of the filter catalyst 2.
