PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller of a direct converter in which control performance is enhanced by compensating for the error of an output voltage caused by commutation. SOLUTION: The controller of the direct converter for converting an AC voltage directly into an AC voltage having an arbitrary frequency and a magnitude comprises a maximum voltage detection means 11 and a minimum voltage detection means 13 for detecting a voltage of a maximum voltage phase and a voltage of a minimum voltage phase out of input voltage phases of the direct converter, respectively, polarity detection means 21-23 each detecting the polarity of a load current, and an adding means 40 and multiplying means 30-33 each operating the compensation amount of a voltage error occurring in the output voltage of the direct converter using a maximum voltage, a minimum voltage, the polarity of the load current, a switching frequency and a commutation time detected by respective detection means 11, 13 and 21-23.
