PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic imaging apparatus which improves operability and is speedily operable. SOLUTION: An electronic imaging apparatus comprises: an imaging means 11 for converting an object image formed by a photographing lens into video information; recording means 13, 14, 16 for recording the video information on a recording medium; reproducing means 16, 22, 23, 24 for reproducing the video information recorded on the recording medium; a protection cover 10 capable of taking the state of covering the photographing lens and the state of exposing the photographing lens; a switch means 31 for switching a recording mode and a reproducing mode if the protection cover takes the state of exposing the photographing lens; and a control means 21 capable of setting the reproducing mode if a power source of the electronic imaging apparatus is turned on while the protection cover takes the state of covering the photographing lens, and switching the recording mode and the reproducing mode based on operation of the switch means if the protection cover takes the state of exposing the photographing lens.
