PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of compressing and decompressing the image of a mobile communication terminal with which image compression is carried out by imparting different hue identification codes to the hue of high appearance frequency and the hue of low appearance frequency. SOLUTION: A method for compressing the image of a mobile communication terminal comprises the steps of: counting the number of pixels for each hue by scanning pixels comprising one image; imparting a new identification code smaller in size than an original identification code to a hue that appears from pixels of a predetermined number or more, and imparting the original identification code as it is to a hue that appears from pixels of not more than the predetermined number; and applying the imparted identification codes to store hue information of the pixels in an image file.
