<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide unauthorized use of important data stored in a stolen/lost storage medium in a system using an easily removable external storage medium such as a compact flash memory. <P>SOLUTION: When data such as a serial number of the storage medium and user-specific data are encrypted and stored in the storage medium, and in use, the stored serial number and the user-specific data are read and decoded, and then, it is determined whether it is used fraudulently or not.
