PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel having high reliability, of which, deterioration of phosphor is restrained by removing impure gas enclosed therein. SOLUTION: A front substrate 20 having a plurality of scanning electrodes and sustaining electrodes arranged in parallel with each other; and a backside substrate 30 having a plurality of data electrodes 32 arranged in parallel with each other and barrier ribs 34; are arranged so as to face each other in such a direction that the scanning electrodes and sustaining electrodes on the front substrate 20 cross the data electrodes 32 on the backside substrate 30. Display-area discharge spaces 44, and non-display-area spaces 45 are formed in the plasma display panel, and gas absorption layers 46 containing Zn<SB>2</SB>SiO<SB>4</SB>are arranged in the non-display-area spaces 45.
