PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aliphatic polyester which is reduced in discoloration at the time of polymerization and molding and has a sufficiently high molecular weight. SOLUTION: The aliphatic polyester is mainly composed of a diol unit and an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid unit and has reduced viscosity of at least 1.6, where the aliphatic polyester contains a group 1 metal element in the periodic table in an amount of at least 0.1 ppm and at most 50 ppm.
