<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the size of a gas treatment device compact, which performs the electrostatic collection of dust and the decomposition of odor, and the like, by plasma. <P>SOLUTION: In a casing 20 of an air cleaner 10, a plasma generating apparatus 40 is integratedly built in an ionization part 32. The ionization part 32 is provided with an ionization wire 35, and a pillarlike part having a U-shaped cross section in a negative electrode member 37 constitutes a counter electrode 36. The plasma generating apparatus 40 is provided with a discharging electrode 41 and also has the counter electrode 36 jointly with the ionization wire 35. When the air cleaner 10 is in operation, relatively small dust in the indoor air is charged by the discharge between the ionization wire 35 and the counter electrode 36 and captured by an electrostatic filter 33. A streamer discharge between the discharging electrode 41 and the counter electrode 36 causes low-temperature plasma to be produced and toxic substance or malodor substance in the indoor air is decomposed by the active species contained in this plasma. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
