PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To contain discarded ink through a simple arrangement. SOLUTION: The platen disposed oppositely to a liquid ejection head for ejecting liquid to a recording matter by reciprocating while facing the recording matter comprises a guide front member for holding the recording matter at a position facing the liquid ejection head while inclining vertically in the carrying direction of the recording matter, and a section for containing liquid which is ejected from the liquid ejection head but does not reach the recording matter below the guide front member.
