PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute system reading at proper timing when connection from a host instrument is disconnected, in a recording/reproducing device functioning as a stand-alone recording/reproducing device and also functioning as a storage instrument when connected with the host instrument. SOLUTION: When the connected state is canceled, from the state in which the recording/reproducing device connected with the host instrument (PC) by a connection means such as a USB operates as a connected instrument mode (storage mode), upon the cancellation of the connected state, resulting in triggeriing that the management information required in the stand-alone operation, as the stand-alone instrument mode (audio mode), is read out, namely the system reading is performed (F106→F107).
