PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a karaoke subtitle display by reducing a data volume of subtitle information. SOLUTION: A subtitle expressed in a character code in an optical disc is converted into graphic data and input from an input terminal 1, and written into a graphic buffer 2. In this buffer 2, different pallet numbers are allocated by each pixel for a character part of the subtitle, its contour, and parts other than these respectively. The graphic data read out from the buffer 2 is color converted at a color pallet 3 on the basis of a packet information 3a so that they are displayed as parts of the subtitle which are not read yet on a display screen according to the pallet number, and even at a color pallet 4, they are color converted on the basis of a packet information 4a so that they are displayed as parts of the subtitle which are already read on the display screen according to the pallet number. A selector 5 selects the output of the color pallet 4 in a designated region which indicates the range of the parts of the subtitle which are already read from a region designating part 6, and selects the output of the color pallet 3 outside of the designated region respectively.
