PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the simple manufacturing method of a liquid crystal display element having satisfactory display quality. SOLUTION: First and second conductive films are formed on first and second substrates, respectively. First and second electrode pattern data in facing regions including display units and data of mutually relatively aligned first and second slit patterns are superposed on each other respectively to prepare first and second reticles so that the slit patterns formed at respective substrates are alternately disposed in a slit width direction when completed substrates are disposed opposite to each other and viewed from the normal direction of the substrates. The first and the second reticles are transferred to form first and second masks of electrode patterns including the slit patterns on the first and the second conductive films, respectively and etching is performed to form first and second transparent electrodes. First and second alignment layers are formed on the first and second substrates so as to cover the first and the second transparent electrodes.
