PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make evaluation spots appropriate by performing evaluation in a wide domain and to enhance evaluation on embrittlement degree of metal material by increasing measuring points, etc. SOLUTION: Grain boundaries are selectively etched to obtain contour-like two-dimensional images. These are superposed to form a three-dimensional image on a specimen surface. Such a three-dimensional image is used to perform measurement on the volume, etc. of grain boundaries. The measurement is performed by using a computer and measured values on a plurality of points are statistically processed to find representing values. These representing values are applied to a master curve expressing a relation between the measured values and fracture appearance transition temperature, that is, embrittlement degrees, thereby calculating the embrittlement degree of the specimen.
