Chill mold casting unit (1) with a horizontal revolving tray (2) for transport of the chill mold (3) and having a fixed casting station (12) for filling of the chill mold, where the chill mold is above the tray (2). The chill mold has filling hole (5) turned towards the tray and connected to it via a passage (6). The casting station has a filling cylinder (7) which can be connected to the passage. An independent claim is included for a method of producing mold parts involving: (a) filling of the cylinder with metal melt; (b) swinging of the cylinder to the horizontal position; (c) docking of the cylinder below the passage (6); (d) filling of the metal into the chill mold with the aid of metering piston (8); (e) opening of the chill mold; and (f) removal of the cast part (13).
