The invention relates to mechanical engineering and can be mainly used for the petroleum industry in submersible electric pumping equipment and for machine and mechanism drives. The aim of said invention is to extend the functional capabilities of a clutch. The inventive starting clutch for an immersible pump comprises drive and driven axially mounted half-clutches, wherein the drive clutch is embodied in the form of a worm shaft, the half-clutches are combined with a slider which is connected to the drive half-clutch by means of a screw joint and to the driven clutch by means of at least one movable spring-loaded thrust arranged on said slider. The half-clutches are placed in a body. The driven half-clutch is embodied in the form of a cylinder provided with at least one slot which is embodied therein at an angle to a cylinder generator. Said movable spring-loaded thrust is geared with the slot of the driven half-clutch and is enabled to interact with longitudinal dead stops arranged on the internal cylindrical surface of the body. Said invention makes it possible to increase the torque value of the electric motor up to the pump starting torque value which is greater than the rated torque thereof by means of the clutch and to ensure variable-speed torque transmission when the drive and driven shafts are coupled.
