<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect failure of a switching element for driving PWM and lamp disconnection failure and to realize proper arrangement of a control unit and easiness of responding to a kind of vehicle in an illumination control device in which a head lamp is driven by PWM system at materialization of DRL execution condition and is automatically lighted at low output in a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: A relay 22 for opening/closing a part between lamps 9, 10 and a power source; CPU 27 for driving/controlling the relay for automatic lighting and connected to an in-vehicle CAN; and an integration circuit 26 for integrating a voltage of a driving side terminal of the lamp are provided on a main control unit 20. FET 31 for opening/closing a part between the lamps 9, 10 and the power source; CPU 33 for driving/controlling the FET for automatic lighting; and a power source connection resistance 35 having a sufficiently larger resistance value than the lamp for connecting the driving side terminal of the lamp to the power source through an ignition switch contact 2 of the vehicle are provided on DRL control unit 30.
