A fuel cartridge (1) has a fuel storage container (2) and a fuel supply opening (4) for taking to the outside a fuel stored in the fuel storage container (2). The fuel supply opening (4) is provided with a fuel supply opening protecting mechanism. The protecting mechanism includes a door (10) for opening and closing an opening (11) provided between the fuel supply opening (4) and the external world, and a lock mechanism (20) for locking the door (10) so that it does not open. This prevents, with the fuel cartridge not installed on a fuel cell, leakage of fuel from the fuel cartridge caused by improper handling etc. by a user.
