DISPLAY APPARATUS AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device and a control method thereof that represent a video signal with a gradation level group reducing a false contour and preventing a flicker. SOLUTION: The display apparatus includes a moving picture detection section that determines whether an input video signal is a moving picture signal; a moving picture gradation level table that stores information about a moving picture gradation level group for displaying the moving picture signal; a still picture gradation level table that stores information about a still picture gradation level group including a specified number of gradations based upon differences of gradations among gradations between adjacent gradations when the difference between the adjacent gradations in the moving picture gradation level group is larger than a specified reference gradation level difference; and a gradation level conversion section that converts the video signal into a gradation level to have the gradation level of the moving picture gradation level group or the still picture gradation level group according to results of the determination.
