PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a near IR absorption filter having large and wide absorption in a near IR region, high transmittance in the visible light region, no large absorption at a specified wavelength in the visible light region, preferable processing property and productivity, and stable performance in a long time even in a high temperature or high humidity environment. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an near IR absorption filter is carried out by coating a substrate with a coating liquid comprising a near IR absorption dye containing at least a diimonium salt compound, a binder resin and a solvent, drying under the following conditions (1) to (3) so as to control the proportion of the residual solvent in the coating layer to 5.0 mass%. The conditions are expressed by: (1) (air velocity)×(temperature of hot air-20)×(drying time)/(coating thickness)>48; (2) (temperature of hot air)≥80°C; and (3) (drying time)≤60 minutes, wherein units of the factors of the air velocity, temperature of hot air, drying time and coating thickness used in (1) to (3) are m/sec,°C, minute andμm, respectively.
