PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the temperature increase of a refrigerating chamber by manually commanding starting of defrosting of a cooler after moving ice and foods stored in the cooler to the refrigerating chamber or the like and by restraining the temperature increase of the cooler by automatically finishing defrosting, and to optionally manually command returning to the cooling operation after finishing defrosting so as to confirm finishing returning the moved foods back into the refrigerating chamber in a direct cooling type refrigerator. SOLUTION: This direct cooling type refrigerator makes an electric compressor in off state according to the cooling operation control for turning on/off the electric compressor on the basis of the detection of a temperature sensor of the cooler and the defrosting command of a manual switch part, starts defrosting of the cooler, sets a rest period of the electric compressor in off state after finishing defrosting, and returns to the cooling operation state by the manual switch part after finishing the rest period.
