PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve the cooling of a projected end of a cylinder by a simple structure and prevent the assembling work of an internal combustion engine from being complicated when the projected end of the cylinder is cooled by a lubricating oil for lubricating portions to be lubricated. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine 10 comprises the cylinder 18 which is projected from a crankcase 15 and in which a combustion chamber 36 and intake and exhaust passages 37 and 38 allowing the inside of the combustion chamber 36 to communicate with the outside thereof are formed at the projected end thereof and an oil pump 70 capable of feeding the lubricating oil 61 to portions 60 to be lubricated through a lubricating oil passage 68 formed in the cylinder 18. An oil passage 63 branched from the lubricating oil passage 68 and allowing the lubricating oil 61 to pass therethrough is bored at a portion 18a of the cylinder 18 near the combustion chamber 36.
