The use of a mixture (I) is claimed for retarding and/or inhibiting hair growth on a region of the skin, where (I) comprises (by weight) (a) 5-30% malic acid, (b) 1-20% electrolytes and (c) 50-94% water-based composition containing 0.05-40% (based on (c)) of a film-forming agent.
