Joint between two construction parts

A simple method for fitting a gap (3) between wall blocks (4, 5) has a two part interlocking metal strip (6) covering the gap and secured to the wall blocks via an overlap. The two parts of the metal strip are linked by an interlocking sliding grip (9, 10), for thermal expansion while a fire retarding mat (11) is loosely held across the gap with the edges clamped between the blocks and the overlapping edges of the metal strips. The mat is made of a material which foams when heated above a set temperature, to fill the gap with a fire retarding foam.
