Apparatus and method for determining the straightness or relative orientation of hollow cylindric or hollow cone bodies

The apparatus determines how straight and the spatial orientation of the bodies with respect to their parallel or angular relationship to each other. The apparatus has a transceiver which is pivotal essentially without any play over a hollow cylindrical surface or partial surface. The transceiver emits and receives light beams and is mounted on a housing (12) with a fastening or roll device (18). The transceiver has at least one transmitter for emitting parallel or diverging light beams, and at least one receiver for receiving and determining the incident position of such light beams. The apparatus also has a pivotally mounted reflector/receiver for receiving and reflecting such light beams. This has a partially reflective optical element (26) for partially reflecting the light beams and a receiver (24) for receiving and measuring the incident position of a portion of the light beams.
