Anvil for cutting web material and method for making transverse cuts in a web material using such an anvil

The anvil has a blunt tool working against a cutting tool in an active position (cut position) so that a cut is not directly made. The blunt tool is made from hard material and is placed horizontally to the cutting position and can be moved into a passive position (non-cut position) and reversibly moved. The cut is made during the movement of the blunt tool against the cutting tool. An independent claim is included for a method for making transverse cuts in a web material using such an anvil.
