A mat 10 has an integral lamp unit 12 arranged so as to direct light outwards across the mat, and a pressure responsive normally open switch means which is closed by pressure applied to the mat to turn on the light source. The lamp unit has a housing 18 of elliptical shape comprising respective moulded plastics components to form an opaque material portion 14 and a transparent material portion 16. The housing contains a light source preferably LEDs (30, figure 5), batteries, electronic circuit means, magnifying lens (24, figure 2) and a reflector (28, figure 5). The mat is made up of upper and lower fabric sheets which may be flocked PVC, fleece, polycotton or printed vinyl. |
