The optical fiber has a dispersion value at a 1.55 mum-wavelength band, of 6 to 24 ps/nm/km, and satisfies A>3xD+40, where D represents a dispersion value (ps/nm/km) at a central wavelength of a 1.55 mum-wavelength band, and A represents an effective core area (mum²). The optical transmission line for transmitting an optical signal, which includes the optical fiber is provided as well.
