The invention relates to an expansion device for a coolant, in particular to an expansion device for controlling a high-pressure level in an air conditioning system. The inventive expansion device (16) is embodied in the form of a valve with sliding seat (22). Said invention also relates to an air conditioning system (10), in particular to a motor vehicle air conditioning system consisting of a compressor (12), a condenser or a gas cooler (14), an expansion device (16) and an evaporator (18). The inventive expansion device is embodied in the form of at least one valve with sliding seat.
