PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide sliding members and a process of forming striation therein that can reduce a sliding resistance of the sliding surfaces of sliding members which slide relative to each other. SOLUTION: The sliding members 1 are provided on at least the either surface of sliding members 1 which slide relative to each other with a number of grooves 6 which are formed across width such as to be oriented in a direction approximately perpendicular to the sliding direction. The leading edge 8 of a protrusion formed between the grooves is of an approximately trapezoidal shape.
