PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which exactly detects the top or the tail of a film on a film carrying route, i.e., the position of the film itself to clearly read and print an image, and secures the high accuracy of a length calculation. SOLUTION: The image reader 1 having a carrying mechanism for carrying a photo film F on a carrying route, a processing mechanism disposed on the carrying route for processing the photo film F, a shedding space for winding up and shedding the film F carried on the carrying route, and an image reading mechanism for reading and printing an image on the film F comprises a reflection type optical sensor S having a light emitter and a light receiver, and a reflection mirror M.
